So what a trip. As maybe you guys know now, my sister has been an exchange student in Kansas since last August, and this weekend it was time for her graduation. Of course I could not missed this event but I almost did. I decided to surprise my sister, becuase she knew that our parents were coming this last Friday and I told her that I was coming on Sunday morning. But I lied, because my flight was also on Friday. I left New York around 3pm and was scheduled to arrive to Wichita at 9pm with a layover in Dallas. The only thing was that in Dallas I realized that my flight to Wichita was cancelled and next one was at 9:50pm and of course full booked. So I ended up on place number 8 on a standyby ticket list. When they were boarding the 9:50pm plane, we all standby passengers, we were about 20 people, stood next to the counter to see if we would make it or not. Unfortunately, 7 people got in. So there I was. in Dallas, by myself, and had no clue what was going on. After talking to a guy who worked for US Airways, I ended up getting a free hotel night, free dinner (I bought Jambo Juice the next day), free breakfast and free transportation. With the result in my hand I think it was a great outcome for missing/cancelling the flight.
Well, I still needed to come to Wichita. So the next plane was schuedule for 9:25am on Saturday. I got on that one and arrived to the airport in Kansas around 11am. So my dad and my sister's host dad, Dave, came to pick me up, becuase my sister and her "mums" were at yoga. Which meant that the surprise was still on, she did not suspect anything. When we came to the house the girls were already home and almost as soon as I stepped up on the stairs, my sister, Emma, came running, screaming and crying. So there we were, reunited after 10 long months, on a driveway in Kansas. It was really really nice to hold her in my arms again. God, I love surprises!
